The electronics industry has always been very fertile in launching new products in the market and the leading brands of the techno industry like Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba are now taking the initiatives in greening their electronic products. The electronic market industry has now became very cautious for the environment and is moving towards Greener Electronics and adapting environmental policies.

"The Greener Electronics Guide" is getting the electronics industry to take responsibility for the life cycle of their products and to make them eco friendly. "The Guide" was launched in August 2006 and now its has published its 9th edition. The major role of this guide is to rank the leaders of the mobile companies, computers, TV and games. It ranks the market according to its policies and practices on toxic chemicals, recycling and energy. The guide has been a key driving force in getting many companies to make significant improvements to their environmental policies, and it continues to provoke significant changes in the hardware industry.

An Investigation On Electronics Industry

The latest site where high-tech toxic trash was discovered, causing maximum pollution was in Ghana. The recent investigation disclosed the major companies products being torn apart in almost worst conditions, emitting hazardous toxic chemicals in the surroundings causing maximum disturbance in the life cycle at the alarming stage.

  • Philips stands out as the company with the worst position on e-waste and recycling. It ranks 12th with 5.4 points.
  • Secondly, is the portable devices industry which are also tremendously growing with waste problems as they continue to upgrade their products every alternate year.

Toxic Free and Safe Green Electronics

The electrical manufacturers have put up their collars and are eliminating the harmful chemicals which are used in the designing of the products.

Lets review few cases of the electronics industry and their initiatives for the environment:-

There are no companies who have so far released a computer completely free of brominated flame retardants (BFR) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) but several have recently launched computer products with restricted amounts of toxic like BFRs and PVC, companies like Apple, Dell, Toshiba are going green in the industry and launching products which in itself is a big achievement for the market.

Sony Ericsson is another one that stands tall, as it has banned hazardous chemicals such as antimony, beryllium and Phthalates since the beginning of the year. All of its new models are PVC-free.

Following the footsteps of these companies like Sony Ericsson and Nokia, Apple has also announced that its new series of iPods will be free of BFRs, PVC and mercury.

Toshiba is also setting an example for other companies and taking many initiatives to improve the environmental policies.

Save Environment

Reuse and recycling of electronics can save environment up to 2% - 3%. The electronics industry and consumers can specifically take steps to protect and preserve the environment together. Manufacturers need to grab a truly comprehensive approach for the sake of environment and livelihood of the people. Consumers should also choose toxic free product and they should ask for recyclable products.

A MP3 player is becoming one of the inevitable accessory to a music Lovers life and many of the youngsters of today cannot live without one. We have many varieties of MP3 Players in various ranges and prices to suit everyones specific requirements. The types of MP3 Players basically depends upon the capacity of your Player, the amount of music you can store on it and how much youre ready to pay for it, and the type of storage used in it etc. Some of the types of mp3 players are Flash Memory Players, Hard Drive Players, MP3 CD Players, Minidisk MP3 players, Hybrid Players.

When compared to other types of MP3 players, the flash memory MP3 player is the smallest and lightest of all. It has a flash type memory card as its storage media and has no moving parts. The capacity of the flash memory is limited compared to todays standards and hence it can only store fewer songs. It is lightest and it is ideal for casual digital music fans who would like to have small amount of music. Because of its size, and the type memory element being a flash memory card it consumes very less power and so its battery can last much longer.

When compared to flash memory players, hard drive players are big in size. But the storage capacity is more. These types of Players have a mini hard disk in them as the main storage media and have relatively more capacity when compared to Flash Memory MP3 players. This is ideal for one who looks out for a player for their entire music collection. It does include some moving parts and as such there is some skipping when the player moves around and it has to be handled very carefully. Hard drive players often have more in-built features because of the size. These usually consume more power and hence frequent battery changes are required.

MP3 CD Players is a new variety of CD players available that could play MP3 and other digital sound files. These players burn the CD R/RW discs to your old CD collection. MP3 CD player is cheaper than the flash memory and hard drive memory players. But they are much larger in size and may skip when jostled.

If you are the one who would appreciate Minidisk Technology, then there is an improved new line of technology also known as Minidisk Walkman digital music players. The technology companies have started offering MP3 capability in other consumer products such as personal assistants, DVD players and other accessories and we will have MP3 capability in many more Gadgets in the near future.

Customer Review: Well worth the money
HDMI cable for this cheap, and it works! That's really all you need to know about this product. Shipping took a while, sadly, so don't order this if you need it tomorrow. Sadly, if you do need it tomorrow, you'll wind up paying about ten times this price for exactly the same product at a local store. No joke. If you can even find one this long at a local store (which is rare). Don't listen to people who whine about signal quality, wire gauge size, lossy conductors, etc. This is *digital* - it either works or it don't. This one works just fine with my upconverting DVD player, my Xbox 360, and my HD cable box. It all looks perfect. While its technically not rated for in-wall runs, it works just fine inside a wall or hanging out in the back of your system. I recommend you buy several of these before you need them. Have them lying around. You will eventually need them anyway, and wouldn't you rather pay half of the retail of ONE cable and get 5-6 cables instead? I promise that the first time a neighbor or friend or coworker asks and you just hand them this, it'll be well worth the few bucks.

Envision has incredible High Definition LCD TVs for sale at unbelievably low prices. But if you haven't had the fortune of owning a HD TV yet, how do you know you are really getting a great bargain by deciding to purchase an Envision LCD TV?

In this review we'll go over some basics of High Definition, and why Envision has them down.

Most 32", and 37" High Definition TVs have resolutions at 1366x768, a Widescreen Resolution (6:9 Aspect Ratio). This provides a clear 720p or 1080i (1366x768 resolution and above). There are five different formats for the Envision LCD TV (37"): Normal, Full, Letterbox, Zoom and Panorama. It also features a De-interlacer and 3D Comb Filter. Viewing Angle is also something to take into account. The larger the Viewing Angle the more you can see of the screen from a corner of the room, because there is less glare or distortion as you move around.

1200:1 Contrast Ratio is becoming a standard for affordable HDTVs. But what is contrast? Contrast is the screen's ability to project bold, sharp projections of luminance and blacks, making colors vibrant or shadowy - whichever the media is aiming at. A high contrast ratio will allow for more precise graduation of color shades, while a low contrast ratio will make the screen appear mute and lifeless. In short, the higher the contrast ratio, the bolder the imagery.

This screen has a 8ms response time, which is more than adequate for any gaming platform. This used to be an issue for LCD TVs, but technology has improved and you'll be hard pressed to find any that have any difficulty handling motion or response time.

HDMI is also a huge factor in High Definition DVDs, Blu-Ray, or gaming. This screen has two HDMI ports, so if you've got more than one favorite system, attaching them both at the same time won't be a hassle at all. It also features a PC Input, so if you're into PC gaming or just want a larger screen for browsing, this one has it.

One of the coolest features about High Definition LCD TVs is that nearly all of them can be wall mounted. Envision LCD TV (37") is VESA Wall Mountable, so you can pick that up as well to attach it overhead.

For more information on how to make an Envision LCD TV (37") yours, click here.

Plasma TVs have become one of the important necessities in recent times. More so, because the prices of plasma televisions have dropped considerably, quality is getting better, and the plasma TV technology is also improving. Consumers today have a wide range of brands to choose from. LCDs are generally a bit more expensive than plasma TVs, and both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Read on to find out apparent advantages and disadvantages of Plasma televisions.

Advantages of Plasma Television:

Some of the benefits of purchasing a plasma television can be: better ability to deliver deep blacks, better contrast ratio, more color depth, more availability in larger screen sizes, and better motion tracking (also termed as the response time). You need to decide as to what kind of flat panel television you would like to go for, as each has their own benefits and disadvantages. For example, plasma TVs come with a host of other advantages such as large screen size that can be mounted on a wall or from the ceiling; have a higher resolution, have a flat screen; gives good room lighting etc.

Disadvantages of Plasma Television:

In comparison to LCD TVs, Plasma TVs have these inherent disadvantages: Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in (this no more poses a problem due to technological advances in the recent years), not-so-good performance at higher altitudes, more generation of heat, heavier in weight, very delicate to ship, and very short display life span (this is also considerably reduced due to improvements in technology) Other disadvantages include: inherent potential burn-in quality due to phosphor technology, lower brightness, neither slimmest nor the lightest, has shorter life, and exorbitantly priced.

Deciding on Buying a Plasma TV:

Before you decide on which model of Plasma TV to purchase, you need to go to a dealer and compare feature and prices of different models of Plasma TV. You then need to make your decision based on which kind of Plasma TV will give you a pleasant image, and connection flexibility and the one that fits into your budget well.

Nevertheless, flat panel Plasma televisions are a good choice for home theatre, because prices continue to drop down with quality and features continuing to improve, and they are proving good value to consumers. Plasma TVs also offer superior sound and picture clarity that can be compared to a computer monitor is lightweight and easy to carry and ship. At the same time, Plasma TVs are very expensive to purchase and fix, could prove to be a complicated setup

Would you believe that scientists created the plasma TV while trying to come up with a better computer monitor? Well, this is the truth. The LCD and plasma televisions are a product of the development of computers. In fact, we owe so many advances in technology directly and indirectly to the development of the computer. It shouldn't be a surprise that our viewing pleasure is directly improved by the insatiability and constant inventiveness of scientists who are trying to solve their own daily annoyances and questions.

Way back in 1964 the development began at the University of Illinois. Back then monitors for computers were actually just simple televisions. You have to remember that TVs at this time were actually cathode ray tubes. In order to correctly display, they had to refresh themselves all the time. That was a huge obstacle when trying to use the television as a computer monitor. It was fine for watching television, but the resolution was awful for computers. Within the first year, the very first plasma screen was working.

Today, plasma TVs have millions of cells that make up the color and screen's resolution. The first plasma monitor consisted of only one cell. However, it was still moving in the right direction. As Liquid Crystal Displays became the norm for small monitors, plasma technology was halted. A few years later, large flat screen televisions became very popular. At the time, only the biggest flat screens could be made economically using plasma technology. These days, LCD screens as well as plasma flat panel televisions are popular and they are available in various sizes.

Plasma TV has made a big difference in how people view TV and use their computers. HDTV has become a sought-after item, as indicated by the number of plasma television screens being sold in retail stores. The cost of a flat screen, which was once too high for the average consumer, has since lowered substantially. Now, lots of people have these incredible flat screen televisions, and they're hooked on their clear high definition television programs, especially sporting events.

The world owes the scientists working at the University of Illinois a huge debt of gratitude. Because of their need for a new computer monitor, the world was introduced to plasma TV. Without them the large, unwieldy projection sets of old will still be standard and a clear, beautiful picture wouldn't be a reality. These scientists created a remarkable viewing experience some 30 years ago, and now individuals have the opportunity to view superb quality programming at an affordable price. What do you think the next great advance in entertainment viewing will be?

Vic Metten a home theater installer knows the connectors and cables make the difference in picture clarity for Plasma TVs. He recommends the folks at Best Deal Cables for their innovative HDMI cable, certified for 1080p and also has a unique clip to keep it secured. They don't have huge advertising budget so their HDMI, DVI, and Component video cables are reasonably priced.

Why go flat screen? Flat screen TVs are not just the trend, they also give you more in terms of viewing space. Although a 20" flat screen TV may have the same measurements as the more traditional 'curved' screen TV usually found on CRTs, the flat screen gives the illusion of extended width and height. If this is your dream gadget for this year, here are a few tips you can use when choosing and buying a flat screen TV:

Sometimes, flat screen is just that - flat screen.

High-end television units such as plasma TVs, HDTVs and LCD TVs all feature a flat screen. However, there are also lower-priced CRT (cathode ray tube) TVs that feature a flat screen but do not have the same features and capabilities as its more expensive cousins. Don't just think that because it's a flat screen, it's automatically a plasma or an LCD.

Thin is a good thing.

They might be banning super-thin models on the catwalk but people definitely welcome thin, flat-panel TVs with open arms. When buying a flat screen TV, look for a unit that is slimmer than the older CRTs. There are brands such as Philips, for example, that sell flat screen TVs that are thinner than usual. They may not be as thin as sleek plasmas and LCDs but they will do well in your living room or anywhere you intend to put them in your home.

Thin flat screen TVs are also easier to move and they don't occupy a lot of space. You'll thank yourself later when it's time to re-locate the unit to a better viewing area or in case you move to a smaller apartment.

Plasma or LCD?

Either one of these flat screen TVs would be a good choice, depending of course on what you want and what you expect. Budget, too, is a factor. Both are thin and offer a smooth face, although LCDs tend to be lighter. The cinematic experience is also enhanced with both, since the aspect ratio of today's units are at 16:9 - meaning, images will appear more rectangular.

To choose from either type of flat screen TV, consider the following:

Size. Plasmas tend to come in monster sizes although LCDs aren't too bad either. If you prefer size, go for plasma.

Resolution and image display. Plasmas show excellent details and sharpness, especially along the edges of the onscreen image. LCDs, on the other hand, allow you to view images unchanged even in bright conditions.

Budget. Prices are currently nearly head-to-head, so it's really up to how much your bank account will allow you to buy.

Go for picture quality.

Ultimately, a TV is made for viewing. You can't really appreciate a TV if it doesn't count for much in the image display department. Regardless of the technology behind it, a flat screen TV isn't worth your time, effort and money if it can't deliver a decent picture.

Spend some time with your intended purchase and examine its performance. Look for differences in picture delivery, particularly in the areas where blacks contrast with white or bright colors or when a high-speed scene is being shown. How well you can tolerate a flat screen TV's performance in these areas will of course depend on your preference, patience and budget.

However, it pays to consider the kind of money you'll be shelling out for the type of viewing pleasure the TV will give you. If you're the type who looks forward to spending hours and hours on end in front of the TV, then make sure the flat screen TV you choose won't disappoint.

Customer Review: Awesome TV -- For Adults!
I bought this television in July. Let me just start by saying that the television is AWESOME for watching television and DVDS/BDs. I have it going through my Sony receiver, which has 4 HDMI inputs, and the ability to add audio delay. Sooooo... that being said, I don not have the problem with not being able to connect enough devices to the tv. I bought it for that very reason...I don't want a bunch of wires/cables goiing to the tv as it hangs on the wall! So I have 3 HDMI devices going to the Sony receiver, and 1 HDMI output from the Sony to the tv transmitter...I never have to change the tv input device... just the receiver input device. Now, add this all to the Harmony One remote and it works perfectly! I also don't have the problem with gaming delays because I simply don't hook the games (PS3, WII, 360) to the system...I use my 72-inch Samsung TV (which cost less initially on Amazon, now goes for 3,999.00)for that!!!!
Customer Review: Problem with the wireless box
I recently returned this tv. The picture is absolutely stunning, but the tv loses signal with the wireless base unit once every hour or so. I had the samsung tech come and work on the base unit. He replaced some part in it, but even that did not solve the problem. A great tv if it works, but unfortunately mine did not.

It's a wonderful image: the young couple comfortably nestled on a sofa watching their favorite film on the plasma TV mounted above a roaring fireplace. But is it entirely practical? Common sense dictates that having an expensive plasma screen on the wall right above a roaring fire is not the wisest move in creating your home entertainment system. However, it is successfully done on a regular basis and can be done keeping certain guidelines in mind.

There are three main aspects to successfully mounting a plasma screen over your fireplace: fire, wall and math. The first refers to what kind of fireplace you have, and what kind of fire sits in it; the second refers to whether you have a brick, stone, concrete or hollow wall and the third, math, refers to certain measurements regarding the installation of the plasma screen.

If you have a modern fireplace then chances are most of the heat is either directed upwards and outwards through an efficient chimney or directed forward and down, towards the main room. In this case it is best to test the area above your fireplace, using a thermometer or candle, for heat with your fireplace on full blast. If it doesn't get too hot up there then your plasma screen will be fine. It helps a great deal if you have a wide enough mantelpiece in order to block off some of the heat as the screen will most likely stick out about 3-4 inches from the wall.

Secondly, if you have a stone, concrete or brick wall then drilling holes into it for the screen holders should work fine. When the wall is a hollow, 'dry-wall' you will most likely be drilling into some kind of plasterboard. In this case you have to be very careful that the 'wall' can take the weight of your plasma TV (which can weigh up to 40kg!). You will also have to make sure that there is some way for the wires to be 'hidden' by going through the wall behind the plasma screen.

Lastly, the math. How high is the fireplace and the plasma screen mounting? How far away is your sofa from the screen? What angle will the screen be installed with in order to facilitate comfortable viewing? You must think about these questions while you consider buying or installing the plasma TV. If the screen is too high, or viewing distance too close, then you're liable to get a crick in your neck; angling the screen correctly downwards can help reduce this problem also.

Both plasma screens and fireplaces are central attractions in any room and, as such, are increasingly occupying the same location in order to preserve the symmetry and aesthetic of the room. Plasma screen TVs may be very large but they are also very flat and can for this reason be integrated seamlessly with the rest of the room's dcor. A bit of careful planning, research and consultation can help you successfully mount your plasma screen on the wall above your fireplace.

Customer Review: A 10 Year Olds Point Of Few
I had this game for awhile, but eventually my 5 year old sister lost the romote and we lost the disk! Now my older sis is 13, i'm 10, and lil sis is 6. This game has its up and downs but its a really fun game!!!! If I would rate this from 1 to 5, 5 being the best, I would give it a 4! This game lets you create a girl, creates its personality, hair, outfit, and etc. and you can creat a rooom and do chores and more! Its a girls life! I wish there was more to do... but this game is also a learning game, but what really matters is that i'm having fun! It teaches me the value of friendship, money, and more! I really want it again and my parents said that if all 3 of us will play it, its totally worth it! I'd say the range of age would be 7-14, and it would be younger but because of younger kids can't read, its hard for them! Maybe even older! My neighbor is about to become 15 and she loves it!
Customer Review: My daughter loves this!
My 9 year old daughter can't seem to get enough of this! I thought it was kinda dumb @ first but now I get into it with her.

Before you launch out and by that new TV, you need to compare LCD TV's to get the best fit for your needs and your budget. Right now you can spend anywhere from a few hundred bucks to several thousand dollars for an LCD TV. Not only that, but there are a number of manufacturers and makes and models to choose from. Should you get LCD or Plasma? That is only one of the several questions you need to answer before you buy. Let's talk about what you should know to compare LCD TV's.

To better help you make an informed decision, let's compare LCD TV's by looking at the major manufacturers, talk about the difference between plasma and LCD, understand resolution (what's high-definition and what's not), and also consider what you're actually going to be using the TV for. Once you read through this article a couple of times, you should be prepared to make a well-informed decision about what type of TV to buy.

First the manufacturers!

Although there are a bunch of companies who make LCD and plasma TV's, the main four are Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and Toshiba. They all make great products. I can't tell you to buy a certain one, or avoid a certain one. You won't go wrong with any of these four. Having said that, the differences between these four lie in the features that each individual model comes with. The LCD TV marketplace is incredibly competitive, which means cheaper TV's, and more models and features. That's good for you and me, but you do have to think about how to compare LCD TV's in order to make sense out of the marketplace.

So, if choosing a certain manufacturer is not going to help us find the right TV, what will. Well, let's continue by talking about plasma and LCD technology. Is one choice better than another one? Let's see.

Actually, right now, there's no clear winner between plasma and LCD. Both have their advantages. Both have their disadvantages.

Advantages of LCD TV's

  • Lighter weight than plasma TV's
  • Screen reflect very little light. (So, you can put them in well-lit rooms!)
  • Use less power
  • Images can look brighter

Disadvantages of LCD TV's

  • May have a problem with pixel charge
  • Because of that, can have a problem with ghosting
  • Can also have stuck pixels

Advantages of Plasma

  • Faster pixel response
  • Higher brightness and contrast levels
  • Looks more "cinematic"

Disadvantages of Plasma

  • Burn-in can be caused by a static image
  • Can also have a problem with ghosting over time
  • Heavier than an LCD TV, and needs extra support to mount on the wall

Now, let's talk about resolution. TV's currently come in three different resolutions, 480, 720, and 1080. These numbers refer to the number of times the TV scans across the screen. 480 is not considered high-definition resolution. Obviously the greater resolution the higher the price.

Finally, you've got to consider what you're going to use the TV for. Cable and DVD, probably. But nowadays TV's can be hooked up to a number of different devices. Popular uses for TV's are playing video games and also using with your computer. You'll probably do better if you get a TV that can be hooked up to more things, rather than fewer.

Customer Review: At your own risk
I bought a toshiba plasma tv 3 1/2 years ago. A component broke and the repairman ordered the part and Toshiba customer service promised to send it in 2 months. Now, 3 months later, the part has not arrived and Toshiba says the part is not being manufactured anymore. So, buy a Toshiba at your own risk. As for me, I will never buy anything Toshiba anymore.
Customer Review: Nice... while it lasted.
For the first two weeks of owning this product I had a wonderful tv. It was too good to last. The screen died. The audio still worked but there was no picture. Toshiba tried to blame me; surely I, the ignorant customer, had done something wrong.Purhaps I had set it outside in a rainstorm or dropped it off my roof. Nope. Sorry Toshiba, I didn't do anything except try to watch tv with my wonderful television. You created a subpar product and refuse to assist you customers once your products stop working. Long story made short, I had to fight for 2 months with Toshiba representatives who refused to cover repair costs, transportation to the repair facility (they wanted $300 to drive the tv 3 1/2 hours), or to refund my purchase. They changed their minds when I contacted my lawyer. Apparently unless a Toshiba employee personally takes a bat to your television they will refuse to cover the repair costs. They make good short term televisions but their customer service is absolutely appalling. Don't buy this tv if you're worried about getting an onion and don't have a good lawyer. Go with a Samsung. I bought an LN46A650 to replace this tv and have been extremely pleased with my new purchase. Toshiba has permanently lost this customer.

Sling Media SlingCatcher SC100-100 Universal Media Player for TV

Customer Review: Mixed Review
I have setup and used just about all Sling products since the first Sling Box came out years ago. The concept of the Sling Catcher is great. The implimentation into the real world is a little disapointing. My laptop plugged into my large HDTV does a much better job than the Sling Catcher. The Sling Catcher has the advantage of the remote control. The last software update to the Sling Cacther made some marked improvements to the picture quality. The Sling Catcher has had problems staying connected to one of my Sling Boxes on the other side of the world, where my laptop just runs and runs. I would say that with a few more updates to the software I will be able to change my review from a 3 to a 4. Like most people I think it's over priced. I could nearly purchase a laptop and keyspan remote for the same price. There are some positives with the Sling Catcher. It's fairly easy to plug in and setup. The menus are easy to use except when entering passwords, emails addresses etc. It takes some time to scroll through and enter the correct characters. In all it's a great product but needs a little work with the firmware. If I was thinking of buying this product today I would. Just be aware that it needs a little improvement.
Customer Review: Max resolution is 480p. Useless with Pro-HD Slingbox
You can read all the reviews pro and con, but it really comes down to this. The Slingplayer software that runs on this box has a maximum resolution of 640X480. If you use a non-HD Slingbox, it does the job. Using it with the Pro-HD is pointless. Although the SlingCatcher has HDMI (& Component) outputs to an HDTV, the software that runs on the Box only supports 640X480 output. According to Sling Media, this may be corrected in the 1st Qtr of 2009. Until it does, avoid.

Although the price on an HD flat tv has gone down quite a bit over the past year, it's still not something that you just go out and buy without at least knowing a little of what you're doing. There are a ton of new technologies in these tv's, plasma, lcd, high-definition, and knowing what you want and why you want it, will help you save money and be happier with your purchase.

So, what should you be thinking about when you go shopping for an HD flat tv? Well, here are a few points that I think are important.

The first thing you need to consider is what brand you want to buy. Currently the big makers are Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and Toshiba. You don't have to go with the absolute industry leader, but choosing a company that's solidly behind your purchase is wise. Right now, just judging from what I see in the marketplace, I would guess Samsung is the industry leader. At least right now, Samsung seems to have more choice available for consumers.

The next thing I would do would be to decide what you're going to use your HD flat tv for. Are you just going to watch cable TV or DVD movies, or will you play video games on it. How about hooking it up to your computer? Knowing what you're going to use it for will make a difference in what you buy.

Next, I would consider what resolution TV I want to buy. Are you going to buy a very high resolution 1080p TV, or would something of a lower resolution suffice. What does it matter? Well, it all gets back to what you're doing with the TV and how much you're willing to spend. Also, some of the lower resolutions are so low that they don't qualify for being HD, or high-definition. The resolutions available are 480, 720, and 1080. These numbers refer to the number of lines that are scanned on the TV when it creates the picture. 720 and 1080 qualify for high-definition, while 480 is only standard definition (like your old TV!).

Finally, you need to decide if you want an LCD or Plasma TV. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. LCD tv's are lighter, so they can be easily hung on a wall. Their screens reflect very little light, so they work well in well-lit rooms. Disadvantages are they can have a problem with ghosting. Plasma TV's, on the other hand, have faster response time and higher brightness and contrast levels. Disadvantages are they need extra support if you want to hang them on the wall.

Customer Review: Great deal!
The sound is a little soft, other than that, great TV for the price I paid! Very fast shipping
Customer Review: Excellent Buy
I bought this TV for my living room space to complement the larger rear projection Samsung that we have in our basement. Seeing that Samsung LCDs are the best-sellers at Amazon, I made multiple trips to Best Buy and Circuit City to find out if it was worth paying the extra price premium for a Samsung. It isn't. This Toshiba has excellent picture, pretty decent sound for a 12*12 living space and surprisingly intuitive menu navigation system. If you are looking for a sub-42" flat screen, I think this Toshiba should be very high, if not at the top, of your list.

Customer Review: Love It!!!!
This is a great little TV! It took me 10 minutes to set up, and I have had no problems. I could see how some people might think the instructions are confusing, especially if you have a complcated set up. The picture is great. I have it sitting on my kitchen counter using the little stand provided, and I have no problems with instability or the vewing angle.
Customer Review: So pleased!
This TV is a wonderful buy for the price. It is compact and sits nicely on my bedroom dresser. The color and clarity are great!

Though it may sound a little complicated, especially for an inexperienced user, copying DVDs to CDs may not be too difficult after all. With a CD or a DVD burner and competent software, copying becomes relatively comfortable. The copied CDs can be played in a standard PC or a DVD player.

Now-a-days, you can find a variety of computer software programs on the market. The software may be attractive to look at and budget-friendly. These complete solutions even allow you to watch the latest DVD titles, author your own DVD, or convert your recorded TV shows to take with you on your Portable Media Player. The entire experience is then elegantly packaged within the attractive, easy-to-use 3D interface of ATI Catalyst Media Center software.
Customer Review: Nice HD Tuner
I bought the PCI Express version of this tuner because I have a Shuttle XPC which is very small and I already had an ATI 650 tuner in the only standard PCI slot, but I wanted to be able to record two shows at once. Since this card and my older card share the same driver, I was able to just install this new tuner in the case, and boot up the PC. It popped up in Vista's Media Center and I was able to record two shows right away. I haven't had any problems at all. Also, the included IR remote and IR receiver work great with Media Center!
Customer Review: It is under rated
I have owned 4 TV cards from ATI and almost every version of all-in-wonder video cards from ATI. Every newer version has better visual quality than it predecessor. The problem is the driver quality indeed has fluctuated over the time. The time is different though with vista supporting the tv card. I just plugged it to PCIe in a vista PC and then had the vista install its driver. Open and configured the MMC as it should be. Then enjoy your good picture quality TV show. That is it. Since MMC has tv, dvd, music, and video under its control. So switching among them are very dependable and friendly. I suggest that you dont install its dirver in vista where the problem will begin unless you are looking for trouble. So the hardware is just fine and just install the driver provided by vista which seems pretty reliable so far.

The biggest buzzword in the audio/visual (A/V) industries today is "digital convergence," which means that we can do away with many of the buzzwords of the past. They are all joining forces under a nice, new, umbrella term to bring you the future of everything from home entertainment to national security. Essentially, everything "audio" and everything "video" is going to place nice together now that they all speak in 0's and 1's.

Well, that's the idea, anyway -- and it's a good one that a lot of smart folks are working on. It encompasses a whole lot more than A/V, including supercomputers, particle accelerators, telecommunications, even rocket science. Our concern in this article, though, is with those things that most people would be likely to use most often. We will discuss digital convergence as it affects music, TV and video.

Music systems
Throughout the postwar years, home audio components went through various evolutionary phases - from slate to vinyl records, from reel-to-reel to cassette tapes, etc. - but they were all "analog" technologies. The general idea didn't change much until the late 1990s. Until then, it was a simple matter of hooking up a record player and/or tape deck to an AM/FM receiver/amplifier combo, wiring the speakers and cranking up the volume.

In 1998, however, all that changed when a Korean company introduced the first device for playing compressed digital music files. These files were called "mp3" as they occupied the third "layer" of the MPEG file, whose standards are overseen by the Moving Picture Experts Group. The actual developer of the "codec" (for "compress/decompress") was Fraunhofer, a German company that licenses the technology to others.

Of course, "digital music" had been around since the introduction of the CD in the early 1980s. However, later advances in computers, plus the advent of the Internet, created pressure for the creation of files smaller than those of CD-Audio, which take up a hefty 10MB of space for every minute. With mp3 files taking up one-tenth that much space, it became feasible to build devices with memory chips in them to play the new music format. Smaller, downloadable from the Internet and easily stored (and copied) with computers, mp3 files-and the players that followed their development-revolutionized home audio.

Today, the question when shopping for a new component or whole new home audio system is what generation of devices to get or keep. If you have a record player that still works, and you like vinyl, you can stick with them. If you have cassettes and a decent tape deck, those will work too. If you want to upgrade but price is a consideration, you can also buy any number of high-powered boomboxes or "bookshelf size" mini-stereos.

But without a doubt, the buzzword for audio is "convergence," meaning that the new digital devices will work with your computer, and all your other digital devices, to bring the "digital entertainment emporium" into your home. Not only can you buy commercial releases for download, and download many "indie" bands' music for free, you can also go all the way and install a wireless audio/video network for the ultimate in home A/V systems. For music lovers, the future is now.

Television grows up
Despite the speed of progress in audio technology, nothing has changed any faster in the past few decades as television. Among the greatest changes have been with various display technologies that have made the old "tube TVs" obsolete. TVs now come in all sizes but mostly with one shape, the new, movie-theater-like 16:9 ratio. The people who bought the first televisions in the 1940s wouldn't even recognize some of the new TV sets.

Today's most popular, most desirable TVs are the flat panels, which can be based on a number of different display technologies such as plasma, LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays), rear projection and LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). In just about five or six years, the cost of a 42-inch plasma display, for example, has fallen from about $5,000 to under $800. Price reductions are just as common among the other types of TVs, too.

The main trouble with TVs today is the proliferation of special terms about the display resolution and the type of programming that can be displayed. Terms like "HD" and "hi-def" and "1080i" are tossed around advertisements and commercials without so much as an explanation. Essentially, the numbers refer to the horizontal lines of resolution and having 480 or more qualifies as "HD." But the fact is, the most important features to understand are the ones you are buying.

In other words, when shopping, buying and installing new TVs, you need to study up on exactly those options and features that are built in to the sets you've selected. There may be special connectors, cables, etc., that are required for your television. Some TVs are actually just monitors and don't even have the channel tuners built-in - they have to be added on as an option. There are also things to learn about integrating the new generation of TVs into home theater systems, so do the appropriate research on Google (or at your local library) and get the information before you pull out your checkbook.

It is important, when investing in any kind of new technology such as plasma TVs, to read all the literature, from the manufacturer as well as independent reviewers, to ensure that you understand how the sets operate. Once you have everything you need, you can tune in, turn on and drop out for some great viewing with those big, colorful new TVs. And, being digital creatures, they will work nicely with your other digital gear, bringing that long-awaited convergence ever closer.

Video for work and play

From the 1970s through the early 1990s, "video game" meant either a Pong unit connected to a television or a bulky arcade monstrosity. Watching "a video" meant popping a book-sized tape cassette into a player that connected to the TV. And "making a video" meant lugging a 30-lb. VHS (or 20-lb. VHS-C) camera around. There still are arcades, and there are still people with VHS (even Betamax) tapes and cameras, but with home theater audio and 60-inch LCD panels now available, you can have state-of-the-art arcade gaming and movie watching in your own living room, surround sound and all. And it's all digital now, of course.

Today, the game side of video is all about the "consoles" - meaning the Nintendo Wii, the Sony PlayStation and the XBox 360 from Microsoft. They are all fairly small, have powerful CPUs, advanced graphics subsystems and the full range of CD and DVD compatibilities for music, audio, video and compressed multimedia files. Hackers have even found a way to install computer operating systems on some of these devices, and use them as gaming machines, word processors and even Web browsers.

Of course, video arcades are still around, too, and the newest models have "feedback mechanisms" installed so that, for instance, in a race-car game the "driver" feels engine vibration, hears the tuned exhaust note and gets a nice, throaty squeal by stepping on the brakes. Enclosed game structures promise better and more realistic action all the time as the holy grail of "virtual reality" draws closer all the time through the march of technology.

Computer gaming has matured, too, although entry-level computers are not up to the challenge. Gamers either "soup up" their own computers or buy from specialist PC builders, because the software makes tremendous demands on the CPU, the graphics processor and the display. Game manufacturers have the market covered, though, as their titles are usually released to all the major platforms and computing environments.

Video cameras have undergone a serious metamorphosis, too. From bulky, tape-based devices, recording-type cameras have evolved into small, powerful, solid-state marvels that capture full-motion video onto flash memory or hard drives. The digital files they create can be uploaded to computers for editing and playback, then copied to VCD or DVD for viewing in disc-based players. Compressed in the proper way, they can also be transferred to websites such as YouTube.

The new generation of "live" or broadcast cameras is also most impressive. Most people will have little contact with the professional broadcast cameras used in television studios, but they can acquire the same technology in low-cost but high-tech webcams, miniature "spycams" and sophisticated surveillance/security video cameras. For very little money, one can buy surveillance cameras that pan, tilt and zoom by remote control, or that detect and follow motion in their field of view.

These new digital security cameras can be either wired or wireless, and connected to TV monitors, video recording devices and/or computers. The PC-based systems are perhaps the most impressive, as there are sophisticated software applications for scheduling, controlling and recording input from one or a dozen cameras. The capabilities are astonishing, especially considering the ever-lower prices as time goes on. Better technology for less money? Quite a deal.

Convergence is coming

We've been hearing this rallying cry for a few years now, and perhaps "is coming" is not the right way to put it. The digital data streams carrying music, TV, movies and live action camera images can all "converge" today, right on your PC or Macintosh (or Linux-based computer), as well as in your home theater system. It is more accurate to say, "Convergence keeps coming," just as technology keeps getting cheaper, better and more widespread.

The road is not without speed bumps, of course, and there will always be people who don't quite get it, can't understand the concepts and are unable (or unwilling) to learn to use it. Unfortunately, these people will not be able to keep up with the rest of us who are getting our news at lightspeed over the Internet, posting home videos on the family website, "ripping" music CDs into mp3 files for a matchbox-sized player, setting up a surveillance camera at the company warehouse or streaming an HD movie straight from the computer to the flat panel TV. There are an infinite number of possibilities, now that all these devices are speaking (pretty much) the same language.

It's the digital language, a robust and limitless range of expression that can be constructed, as stated previously, out of strings of 0's and 1's. It's an exciting thing to be a part of, this convergence. And just as that Energizer Bunny keeps going, and going, and going, the digital convergence just keeps coming, and coming, and coming.

A Closer Look on The LCD TV Monitors

The monitors of LCD televisions are far different from other traditional monitors because of its unique slim design and high quality image resolution.. The crystal clear pictures produced by the LCD monitor is due to the technology called liquid crystal display. With this innovation, the LCD monitor is capable of generating 16.7 million colors. This means, that even the smallest of shades can be detected. Another reason why LCD monitors have gained popularity in the market is its sleekly design that made it space saving. And since it is lightweight, you can easily carry it anywhere you want.

Basically, LCD TV monitor is a combination of computer monitors and conventional televisions. They contains built-in TV tuner enabling them to operate as both. And with their audio and visual inputs you can even hook up large speakers and even woofers in to it so you can enjoy quality sounds when viewing.

The principle of CD TV monitors is to obstruct undesirable colors from the white range. Their screens consist of large number of pixels. These pixels are twisting and turning at the correct angles to create a clear image. Then, a thin lamp or an LCD projector illuminates the pixels . And because of this concept, the LCD TV monitors can be created in a compact design.. In addition, they offer great viewing angles. In fact, some LCD TV monitors is capable of producing high quality pictures when viewed even at 170 degrees angle.

Another amazing feature of LCD TV monitors is the non-glare screen. This helps viewing not straining to the eyes, even when you watch very closely. Even if they may be lights passing it will not be affected. And it gives a clear and sharp image even in a bright room, similar to what you can get when in a dark room.

The LCD TV monitors comes in different sizes such as 19', 20', 21', and 23' and up. You can also get them in small sizes of 14' and 17'. The sizes of LCD TV monitors does not affect their performance when it comes to high resolution image qualities . However, one problem with the LCD TVs is the high burn rates; this implies that the image sticks on the pixels for long periods of time. Another drawback is that it cannot run games with high density, which require HD compatibility. Also, some LCD monitors generates a ghosting effect. But not to worry because manufacturers are doing their best to enhance the features of LCD TV monitors to make them free from all these flaws.

One good feature of LCD TV monitors are its slim design. Did you know that this is because companies created them with small buttons. However, this could sometimes be an issue because if the buttons are too small, the users may have a hard time reading them.

Everyone should watch our for the new LCD TV monitor being designed. People will surely enjoy its functionality of being able to view different stations on the same TV at the same time by just changing their angle of viewing.
